Wedding MANning: A New Standard For Grooms
Traditionally, wedding days
orbit the bride - and wedding fairs have always followed suit.
On the morning of the
wedding, the bridal party is surrounded by hair, makeup, champagne and
breakfast. She’s supported, celebrated, and made to feel - rightly - like a
princess.
The Groom’s Invisible Morning
Meanwhile, the groom…
arrives.
There’s no prep suite for
him. No one checking his suit. No one fixing his tie or straightening his
buttonhole. No one helping with fiddly cufflinks. He’s expected to be ready and
greet guests and meet the registrars and keep track of the rings and
have his speech to hand. I’ve lost count
of the number of grooms fiddling with cufflinks – or trying to find his
cufflinks – when he should be with the registrars. It’s always the cufflinks –
and yes, I carry spares!
Yes, he has a best man - but
few of those are chosen for their organisational skills.
The Pint Problem
For too many men, “groom
prep” means turning up and having a pint. The pint may be welcome, but it
doesn’t settle nerves, it doesn’t create confidence, and it certainly doesn’t
equate to being looked after like the bride.
Wedding Fairs: Built for
Brides
Walk around any wedding fair
and you’ll see the imbalance. Fashion shows for dresses - but never suits. Suppliers
for hair, makeup, accessories, floristry - all aimed at her. If you’re lucky,
there’s a men’s outfitter… and you hope the staff understand how a gentleman
should dress.
Enter the Wedding Butler.
More men in the wedding
industry would help - but I’m here now. The Wedding Butler. A Gentleman’s
Gentleman. Traditionally the role of a valet; on this occasion, it falls to me.
As part of morning prep, I
check in on the groom. I make sure ties are tied, cufflinks secure, buttonholes
placed correctly. I know which buttons fasten and which do not - some
tradition, some practical. For one day at least, let’s make a fuss of you.
I’m beside you all day. If
you’re unsure, I’m there to nudge, remind, steady and guide. When the speeches
arrive and the gents take centre stage, we’ve already gone through everything
together - and your introduction will be every bit as special as the rest of
the day.
Wedding MANning - A New
Standard
At wedding fairs, I make a
vow: I will talk wedding planning to you both - and wedding MANning
to the gents.
For too long, groom prep has
been an afterthought. It doesn’t have to be. Wedding MANning
isn’t a gimmick - it’s a correction, it’s a rebalancing, it’s a recognition
that every partner deserves to feel prepared, supported and confident.
If you’re planning your
wedding, or simply curious about how this works in practice, talk to me. I’ll
show you what Wedding MANning looks like up close.
Same‑sex weddings have
changed the landscape, but the principle holds. Any partner in a suit -
especially one unfamiliar with how to wear it - deserves the same calm, capable
support.
I’m there for you.
Calm, capable support for brides, grooms and partners in suits.
